Are there camping options for Weds night before ride starts? Thinking the brewery would be cool, sleeping with the small of malt and hops would lead to some fantastic dreams. Any other accommodation recommendations? Thanks!

I’ll say no. All our routes are cross/gravel/adventure bike capable. I only play a bike mechanic on TV but would suspect that your headset was a little loose going into that ride and the rocky surface just exacerbated your issue. We do have service facilities at camp; though not able to replace headsets, keeping things adjusted after a day of riding is easily done.

Cross bikes are fine. More important is the tire width it can handle: I recommend at least riding 38c. I’ve had more race-oriented bikes that this would have been an issue but think most if not all modern cross bikes should accommodate this.

I’ve got an older Salsa Vaya. I’ve ridden it on blue diamond MTB trails and it handled fine, but orange to grapefruit sized rock did a number on my headset bushings. Do I need another bike for this trip?

The second night in Mitchell for sure. The first night, not to my knowledge. When scouting the options, I did not see any power sources that were readily available. There are support vehicles however and if you need a plug-in, that could be an option. Personally, if I know I will need an electric device, I bring a battery charger. They’ve become small and inexpensive and can get 4 iPhone charges on one that cost me about $25.

None. If you’re signed up, we’re looking for a headcount by May 25 for transport needs since many are indicating that they’re driving personal vehicles. But short of telling us you need a ride by the deadline, no limits on what bike we can haul for you.
